A few Words from the Founder

Everylingo emerged from the depths of my immigrant experiences; I was born and raised in Croatia, Europe.

I live in Australia, and language is still my biggest challenge. Although my English is quite good, I often feel the need to tell people: "Believe me, I am smart in my native language." 😂

Now, I face an even more significant challenge. I am raising my daughter in the heart of this English-speaking community. My mission? To ensure that her Croatian language skills are preserved and flourish, matching her English. It's a task that demands dedication, patience, and innovative solutions. 

During a child's formative years, their brain is akin to a sponge, absorbing information and patterns at an astonishing rate. Introducing multiple languages in this period enhances linguistic abilities and nurtures cognitive flexibility, empathy, and cultural understanding. 

I found myself manually adding translations to children's books, flashcards, and other accessories to help my child build bilingual vocabulary. Some online materials (generated by computers) were full of mistakes a native speaker would never make. I wanted my daughter's speech acquisition to be genuinely bilingual from the start. I needed easier, faster, and more effective ways to achieve this.

As a member of many online communities dedicated to raising multilingual children, I discovered a shared struggle. Many other parents, like me, were grappling with the challenge of preserving their native languages in an environment that has a different community language. From this collective need, EveryLingo was born.

Witnessing fellow expatriates' struggles, I envisioned EveryLingo as a beacon of hope, where even minor languages like Croatian can thrive in unfamiliar surroundings.

In Australia, where Everylingo is based, the diversity of languages is staggering. However, the thread of many languages is fraying, especially among the second generation. The 5.7 million people who used a language other than English at home in 2021 carry the legacy of languages waiting to be rekindled and passed down.

Everylingo's purpose resonates powerfully. Everylingo is more than an app; it is a legacy in the making. 

EveryLingo is my personal commitment to my daughter and every parent out there striving to preserve their linguistic heritage. It's about ensuring that our children grow up not just multilingual but multicultural, understanding the beauty of differences and the richness of their own roots.
